Riddle Me This

Well the weekend has finally come that Comedian Christian Finnegan has arrived! Who??? (you say) As I've described to everyone who has asked, he's the white guy that plays Terry Crews best friend on the TV show Are We There Yet? What? The TV show that's the spinoff of the Ice Cube movie Are We There Yet? And then the part that kills me is when they sound like they know what show I'm talking about and then they don't. LOL Anyway, he's that man! Well you may not know him, but he's pretty cool and I laugh every time he says "vahooha." He also complimented me by saying, "you have the prettiest hair in the world." Why thanks!
Anyway, Comedian Rickey Smiley happens to be at the Cannon Center on the same Friday night. I check social media and guess who people are talking about online. Well I can say this, my personal weekend has been pretty stress free and I am glad to say that it stayed that way. I really enjoyed the shows and I met new comedians this weekend as well.
On the final day, Christian came and told me, "you switch the music up every night." I replied, "yeah." He said, "that's a good thing. I looked on your Twitter and I saw that you do some modeling." I said, "yeah.." It's always amazing when someone checks out your work. Let that be motivation to someone today, to keep moving forward if you were considering quitting.

Week of 13

If you're curious about the title of this blog it's because this weekend included Friday, June 13, 2014. Nothing fancy, but I will still get my point across. My weekend started on Thursday, with taking my daughter to get registered for school and driving around the city with other errands. Later in the evening, I returned to my hotel room and got ready to go DJ for a comedy show at Chuckles Comedy House with headliner Comedian Steve Brown. While I was getting dressed, I looked out the window and noticed that I had parked next to the car police had surrounded during a drug bust so I had to wait until they moved to get to my car. By then they begun raiding their room. That was more adventure than I needed after the random guy the night before spent fifteen minutes knocking on my door talking about "Aye bro, it's me Cody." lol It had been storming but I made a safely to my destination. I had a few technical difficulties prior to the show starting but I got everything under control in time.
On Friday, I went to the doctor then back to school registration to finish some paperwork for my daughter which took no longer than all damn day for me to fill out 3 pieces of paper. Man, they really have figured out how to waste your life to go through such a long process to get into school. Then they ended up telling me I had to come back Monday. UGH! Whatever. I dropped my daughter off. And then I finished paperwork for another gig and then headed to the comedy club for the second night. The first show of the night was fine but by the second I ended up having to switch computers mid show and use my cellphone and make this smooth transition. After the second show, I went to drop off something on the opposite side of town and then took it in. Saturday, I checked out of my hotel and went home and then eventually got dressed for my gig as a mascot handler. That was an amazing event and it was a great experience - even though I lost $20. I had the honor of working with Limu Energy and the BluFrog Energy drink. They had a success training and some sort of awards show which looked like a concert. It was very nice. I had the opportunity to go on stage with the CEO while we gave away prizes which led to me being offered a business opportunity after the event. I went to deliver money for my daughter and then I headed to the comedy show. What an eventful day!
On Sunday, I got a little rest and then it was back to the comedy club for the final show. The last show was interesting. Steve Brown and I had the final debate about his show music. I was like you keep telling me you're not the nice comedian, but I'm not the nice DJ. We argued the whole weekend about his music, but we worked it out anyway. He kept being mean to me while trying to convince the other people that I was the problem. lol. Oh well, we still had fun.
Needless to say, I did more working than sleeping this weekend, but I survived it. The struggle is always real. The people that I get to work with are interesting and of course they make for great stories. Now it's time for...

Special Engagement

A week after talking about Sinbad with my best friend, I found out that I would get the opportunity to work with him which was amazing because he's someone I've wanted to meet and to talk him up literally was cool. But everything that glitters isn't gold. I'm going to introduce you to the not so glitz side of my life as I pull off the glamorous look.

I just want to say that I had an amazing time working with Sinbad and the other comedians and staff during this weekend even though I wasn't completely myself because of personal issues that I was dealing with that kept me awake for several days at a time. I was extremely tired and I was definitely going through the struggle this week and encountered even more struggle during the weekend. But I survived it just as I do anything else that comes my way and regardless of any of your personal issues you can do the same thing. The following is a photo of me on Sunday morning crying in comparison with a photo I took of myself hours later. My daughter wanted to take a photo of me and I tried smiling for her but I couldn't stop crying. But I pulled myself together, handled my business, and showed up to work laughing and smiling and people said oh you must be having a good day. My day may not have been good but my night was amazing especially with the heavy rain to mellow me out.
I'm not always pretty, but neither is life.

Don "DC" Curry Weekend

This weekend at Chuckles Comedy House, the headliner was Don "DC" Curry who may be most known for his role as Uncle Elroy in the Friday movie collection. It was really a pleasure to have the opportunity to work with him. He was hilarious on and off the stage. We took photos together. I took photos for him and his fans.

By the end of the weekend, he asked me, "what happened to the picture we took last night?"
I said, "I printed it off for you."
He replied, "Well, shit, give it here. I had to use my imagination last night."
I gave him the photo and he said, "mmm mmm mmm. This is a nice picture.  I'ma have to blow this up and make wall paper with this. Will you marry me?"
I laughed and said, I appreciate the offer, but unfortunately, I'm going to decline."
His manager said, "naw she can't marry you. She ain't asked me yet."
Then DC said, "don't you listen to that old man."
Then the manager said, "I got my picture yesterday. My picture had the look of love."
There was more conversation. I packed up and got my things and they all walked me to my car and everyone left. It was a very fun but stressful weekend. But you can check out the crazy side to this weekend in my other post #WhyMyFriday by clicking on it.

#WhyMyFriday

This blog is specifically inspired by incidents occurring this past Friday, May 30, 2014 and the mini stat I posted on Facebook with the hashtag #WhyMyFriday to highlight the madness. That day only got worse. So here I am to tell the full story.

After returning home from visiting my friend, I saw a MLGW service suspension notice on the neighbor's door. It wasn't my business so I kept going. I got in my house and tried to wash my hands and I had no water. So I called MLGW to fix the situation and after going in circles to talk to someone, the lady tried to explain to me that I hadn't had power in months and I asked then why am I paying a bill every month. I was trying to explain that I had power, but the water got turned off with the neighbor's and she said, "oh, well, it seems to be an error on our behalf. You'll need to be home for them to reconnect the power." That was crazy to me because I wasn't there when they disconnected it. Then some random dude was walking swiftly to my door and started grabbing the handle. I snatched the door and said, "yes." He said, "aye, you know who got that loud?" I said, "I sure don't." He said, "aaight," and walked off. What in the fuxxery?
But moving forward, I ended up getting a last minute call about someone keeping my daughter for the weekend. I packed her stuff so she could go to that. Then I went on a date that I was asked to go on at a place I didn't want to go and I ended up having to pay for that. I came home before the storm and got dressed for work. I headed to work and work was fine.  But then someone broke into my car and broke my window. They stole all of my personal stuff and actually left brand new stuff. They broke my window which I couldn't get fixed until Monday so it rained in my car.

Other than that, I had an amazing time at work. I was afforded the opportunity to talk to my newly made comedian friends again as well as meet and work with Comedian/Actor Don "DC" Curry. He was hilarious. He asked me to play Johnny Guitar Watson and Stevie Wonder for him. Then he asked if I knew who they were. I said, "I'm not that young."

All I can really say is let the repression begin because I can't figure out #WhyMyFriday.
